In late 2019, the King Builders team handed over a major renovation and extension project, just in time for Christmas! This project, located in Morningside, involved the transformation of an old and outdated Queenslander into a modern family home.
Featuring a soft blue colour palette that’s carried from the outside in, open-plan living spaces that flow into one another and a beautiful outdoor pool, this home was an absolute delight to bring to life. We are pleased to say our clients now have the forever home they had been dreaming of.
Our clients approached us in early 2019 to talk about this project in depth. Basically, their existing home had become hard to live in as the children’s play area was located downstairs, while all living was upstairs. In the original home, the kitchen, lounge as well as some bedrooms and bathrooms were all on the second storey, whilst downstairs there was an unusable living space with concrete floors – not ideal for a busy family home!
The clients aspired to raise and extend their home, updating the layout so it would effortlessly flow. They wanted to add an outdoor alfresco area that lead out to a pool and yard for the kids to play, while ensuring that the outdoor space was seamlessly connected to the indoor living areas so they could keep watch.
Working with our design team at Urban Design Solutions, a new layout was created that would suit the family’s lifestyle. Upstairs now features three bedrooms, a master bedroom with ensuite and walk-in robe, living space, linen storage and bathroom.
Downstairs, we constructed a study, laundry and mud room, guest bedroom, bathroom and a spacious living area with a kitchen that seamlessly flows onto a new outdoor area.
This area features an alfresco kitchen with built-in barbecue, drinks fridge and a servery bench into the indoor kitchen. We also designed a luxurious entrance to the home, with a feature Hamptons-style staircase to draw the eye upon entry.
Throughout the entire process, our clients worked closely with our in-house interior specialist to make all material and finish selections. This included stunning French oak timber flooring from Awesome Timber Floors; VJ feature walls from Wilson Timbers; a selection of feature tiles from National Tiles; and brushed nickel tapware from Abey Australia.
We also worked closely with Bart from Allfit Cabinet Solutions to include shaker-style cabinetry throughout the home, including mudroom, bedrooms, walk-in robes and study. Each cabinet features colonial-style handles, with stone benchtops used atop these in the kitchen, bathroom and mudrooms.
The completed home is perfect for a busy family. With a calming blue colour palette carried throughout and open-plan living spaces that encourage sociability, we know our clients are going to be very happy in their forever home.
