Our latest project saw us transform a dilapidated home in the quaint suburb of Mount Gravatt East into a modern masterpiece. In addition to completely renovating the existing home, we also added a mid-sized extension to this dwelling, giving our clients room to grow and enjoy everyday life.
The result is a breathtaking, contemporary family home with high ceilings, open-plan living spaces and outdoor entertaining areas, all of which draw upon sustainable building materials. The extension saw us build a large laundry, powder room, kitchen, dining and living area, the latter two which lead into an outdoor entertaining area that captures the northern sun.
Created from a simple concrete slab, this spacious outdoor living area is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or host a weekend dinner party with friends. It also offers views of the mature trees that surround the the private back yard, including an incredible Jacaranda tree, the namesake of the entire operation.
For the existing home, we opted to remove all wall and ceiling lining, reconfiguring the entire internal wall system. This saw us add a master bedroom with walk-in robe and ensuite to create the ultimate ‘parents retreat’. We also built an additional living area and bedroom to accommodate for this growing family.
The front deck was also reinvigorated as part of the renovation. Overlooking the street, this space forms the ideal entrance to this incredible Brisbane home.
In terms of design, we drew upon many sustainable building materials for this project. This included cladding from James Hardie for the extension and Colourbond steel for the southern walls. This innovative combination of materials makes for a striking exterior that also blends into the existing post-war dwelling.
The entire home was designed with the intent to create accessible and easy living spaces, with an emphasis placed on achieving a seamless flow between old and new sections of the home. Each room has been carefully crafted using a soft colour palette of muted tones, which add a feeling of calm to the home.
During construction, many challenges were faced by the team at King Builders, including extensive earthworks which were required to cut the site, to allow the orientation of the extension to fit effortlessly into the landscape.
Should you visit this home now however, there is no sign of these challenges; King Builders crafted a seamless, modern home that stands tall on its leafy street. Jacaranda House demonstrates the impact a well-planned and executed renovation can have to a small family home. Most importantly, our clients love their brand new home, which has allowed them to stay in a neighbourhood they love, without comprising on space or luxury. It really is a win for everyone.
